Galleon Antique Bobbin Sand Timer Kit

RC050

NEW!

The cradle for this hourglass is made of recycled industrial artifacts dating back to the 1960's. Composed of antique wood spools found in abandoned textile mills in England, the spools were used to hold thread, cotton, and yarn that were spun into fabric. This particular timer was a ""tumbler"" and was used as a roller. Yarn passed between these rollers to be pressed and controlled before it was spun into fabric. The tumblers came from Joseph Lumb at Folly Hall Mill, Huddersfield, Yorkshire, which closed around 1969.

As with all antique and hand-made items, the colors and decorations vary from piece to piece. We consider this to be a special part of their history and character.

The hourglass globe is handblown in the UK and fits snugly in the cradle, ready for you to add your own sand. Makes a beautiful and unique option for a wedding sand ceremony or adding sand from a special location.

Really great anniversary or birthday gift idea!

Some of my in-laws took my original idea for my wife's birthday, so I went with one of my backburner ideas for an anniversary instead. It went over swimmingly, so now we have a perfectly matching hourglass on top of our dresser along with all our wedding stuff. The hourglass was filled with some black sand from a special New Zealand trip. Easy to do, beautiful design, I timed it out to 3.5 minutes before capping it, and it's beautiful!

I cannot stress to read the instructions and ensure you sift the sand for any driftwood if you're doing your own sand. I made the mistake and ended up with a tiny piece of driftwood in it, and it took me about 30 minutes to get out.
