This 30 minute timer is made of recycled industrial artifacts dating back to the 1960's. The timer is composed of antique wood spools found in abandoned textile mills in England. The spools were used to hold thread, cotton, and yarn that were spun into fabric. This particular timer was a ""tumbler"" and was used as a roller. Yarn passed between these rollers to be pressed and controlled before it was spun into fabric. The tumblers came from Joseph Lumb at Folly Hall Mill, Huddersfield, Yorkshire, which closed around 1969. A vintage thread spool sticker is placed on the base to give it even more character.

As with all antique and hand-made items, the colors and decorations vary from piece to piece. We consider this to be a special part of their history and character.

Pretty but not the best

Customer service during the ordering process was great!
The hourglass is pretty but the center hourglass is crooked and part of where it is attached looks completely messed up. This was expensive and definitely for the price should not of had to settle with this.

Wonderful sand timer!

These are very beautiful and accurate sand timers. Mine runs 30 min 12 seconds. I own a spinning wheel, so the bobbin frame is especially fun for me. I also love the fact they are reclaimed vintage factory pieces.

I was so happy with this timer I ordered a few more in different time increments. They're beautiful to look at and a low stress meditative way to mark time.

Well-built and a joy to look at. Such a great use of objects that might otherwise be tossed in the trash. Its unique character fits in well with my other hourglasses. So much more enjoyable to monitor time with a vintage hourglass.
